Anantapur, officially Ananthapuramu, is a city in Anantapur district of the of . It is the mandal headquarters of Anantapuru and also the divisional headquarters of Anantapur revenue division. The city is located on National Highway 44. Anantapur was the headquarters of the Datta Mandalam ( districts of Andhra Pradesh and district of ) in 1799, and was also a location of strategic importance for the British Indian Army during the Second World War.
