This device works great!! It connects directly to the IDE Controller on the Motherboard and does detect as the size of the memory card. I used this device to install linux on for a MythTV Frontend I was working on and was very happy with it. My idea was to use the memory card in read-only mode and use AuFS or UnionFS so the card never gets written to again.
