This device works great!! It connects directly to the IDE Controller on the Motherboard and does detect as the size of the memory card. I used this device to install linux on for a MythTV Frontend I was working on and was very happy with it. My idea was to use the memory card in read-only mode and use AuFS or UnionFS so the card never gets written to again. That way I don't have another MythTV Frontend crash somewhere down the line because the hard drive decided to fail. The adapter completely ignores the read-only toggle on the memory card. I kinda suspected this when I bought it as hard drives don't have a read-only jumper, etc. So this is likely because of a limitation in IDE itself makes implementation of read-only impossible. But linux will mount a volume read-only, so no worries.The adapter is a little longer than expected. This device doesn't plug into a motherboard like a normal controller.
