Surairii is the mascot for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp of Nippon Professional Baseball's Central League. He's known for his visual resemblance to Phillie Phanatic, mascot of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Overview
Created by
Sesame Street creator
Bonnie Erickson, Slyly bears significant resemblance to the
Phillie Phanatic, being a large, furry bird with a big snout and
party horn for tongue.
Unlike the green Phanatic, however, he is a teal blue bird, with pink and green comb-shaped mane, and two party horn tongues instead of one. On some occasions, such as after big wins or player milestones, he appears in pink, with yellow nozzles and mane in blue and green – a transformation also known as ハッピースラィリー.
Slyly made his debut on July 29, 1997, in a game at Hiroshima Municipal Stadium between the Carp and the Chunichi Dragons. Unlike other NPB team mascots that enjoys having female or junior counterparts to do performances with, Slyly is the only costumed performing mascot for the Carp, while another mascot of the team, Kāpu bōya, only appears on logos and illustrations. Solos and duets with other teams' mascots aside, he occasionally has two or three Kuroko performers to accompany with his performances.
