Potamonautidae is a family of endemism to Africa, including the islands of Madagascar, the Seychelles, Zanzibar, Mafia Island, Pemba Island, Bioko, São Tomé, Príncipe and Sherbro Island. Fossil remains dating from the Late Miocene period have been attributed to the family Potamonautidae.
