Honaine is a town and commune in Tlemcen Province in northwestern Algeria.
Located at the extreme north-west of Algeria, north-west of Tlemcen and West of Sidi Bel Abbès. There are beautiful beaches located near Honaine.

In late antiquity the town was embroiled in the Donatism, and we know that at the Conference of Carthage of 411, the town was represented by both the Catholic Germano and Donatist Bishop Fidentino. A representative of the town is not known to have attended the 484 AD Synod of Huneric, also in Carthage. Today the diocese of Gissaria survives as a of the Roman Catholic Church Entry at gcatholic.org.Pius Bonifacius Gams, Series episcoporum Ecclesiae Catholicae, (Leipzig, 1931), p. 466. and the current bishop is Radoslaw Zmitrowicz, an auxiliary bishop of Kamyanets-Podilskyi.

It sheltered the port of the Ifrenides, which later became the most important port of the Almohads in North Africa, which was later to be one of the two ports of the Tlemcen Zianides. The port was partially destroyed in 1534, after a brief Spanish occupation. Honaine saw the arrival of a large number of Moorish refugees.

At the end of the reign of Ali Ben Yoûsof in 1192, the Masmoûda already had formidable forces. Abd El Moumen led three campaigns that led to the unification of North Africa ref..
