Hispanotherium was erected by Crusafont and Villalta (1947) for the nominal species
"Rhinoceros" matritense.

Hispanotherium, but was eventually recognized as distinct.
Palaeoecology
H. beonense is suggested to have been a mixed feeder as evidenced by its dental microwear and mesowear.
