Persons thought to have been murdered sometimes re-emerge years after a criminal trial – yet the murder verdict cannot be reversed as judicial error. The author investigates the status of criminal justice in China based on individual cases as well as his own empirical studies. Ten defective areas of criminal justice in China are spotlighted, and the author concludes by examining current efforts at reform.
