Dr. Lauren Artress, Canon for Special Ministries at Grace Church in San Francisco, uses her background in psychotherapy and theology to document her spiritual journey with a forgotten Christian tradition, the labyrinth. Artress describes her own experience discovering the "spiritual tool" and the magnitude of the impact it had on her spiritually and emotionally. From that life-altering experience, she was inspired to bring the labyrinth to the Grace Cathedral in San Francisco and subsequently tour it around the country. Modeled after the centuries-old classical 11-circuit labyrinth in Chartres Cathedral in France, Artress?s portable canvas labyrinth is large enough to walk. The single path that travels to the center of the labyrinth is meant as a metaphor for one?s journey in life. The walking meditation to the center of the labyrinth and back out along the same path is said to evoke a connection to the inner self. In addition to Artress?s own spiritual observations on the power of the labyrinth, the book also includes numerous accounts of those that walked the labyrinth and tapped into personal revelations. With this informative book, Dr. Artress hopes to shed light on the healing power of the labyrinth.
