He is credited with modernizing the approaches to close-up magic and sleight-of-hand. His specialty and passion was card cheating techniques and naturalness in card handling. He spent his life looking for card cheaters and learning and mastering their secret techniques. Written by David Ben, who was born and raised in Canada, has studied and performed magic for over three decades. His formative years were under the tutelage of Ross Bertram, a confidant of Vernon, Dr. Jacob Daley, and Francis Finneran (Carlyle).
