The Little Juniata River flowed through it, connecting Tyrone to communities in the Logan, Bald Eagle, and Juniata Valleys. Since its founding in 1851, Tyrone’s central position also made it known as the “Hub of the Highways.” Its advantageous location allowed the Pennsylvania Railroad Company to establish a railroad terminus to bring the riches of coal, iron, grain, and lumber to market. A newfound prosperity was attained, prompting outside investment. Tree-lined promenades and terraced lawns complemented the natural beauty of this community. This book was just okay. My husband's family grew up in Tyrone, so he knows lots of history, names, dates and places. The author was not specific enough with those details...just generalities. Could have been researched and printed with much more detail. The photos were pretty good; but again, names, dates and places noted would have been much more authentic.
