Scott Lowe does an excellent job breaking down and explaining the rather intimidating components of VMware vSphere 5.Lowe's book goes far more in depth at the internals than the VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage V5.0 class has time to do. Which can be challenging to the point of madness. The author writes well and explains rather unintuitive abstracts in a way that is accessible to a tech audience.Almost every paragraph in this book demands synthesis, as the VMWare product suite is vast and complex..
I bought this book with the purpose of preparing for the VCP 5 certification exam. It covers everything that you need for the test, whether you are just starting out or have your VCP 3 or 4 and want to upgrade.Aside from that, it is now also one of my resources that I using on a daily basis when questions coming up about virtualization projects I am putting together. It is a great tool and I highly recommend that you add it to your collection. Also, I did get my certification!
Like one of the other reviews says, this really does cover it all for all people from beginners to experts. For me, that's worked as a stepping stone. Lowe introduces you to VMware and delves into the basics and the most advanced stuff. He really throws all of his knowledge out on the page. While I'm still a beginner, I feel like I'll be using this as resource for a while. I think it's a must have even if you've been using VMware vSphere for a while
