I am a software developer and I work from a laptop nowadays. I need the portability. What I always missed about having a desktop setup was having 2 or 3 monitors. Well, I was skeptical about this product, but bought it anyways, and now I couldn't be happier. Although, it's not very good with video applications or anywhere that needs graphics acceleration. That's ok tho, I have a main monitor which handles that stuff just fine.
Works pretty well, nice for adding additional desktop space beyond what is supported by your video card. I was not able to play video on the extra monitor and the refresh is a little finicky, but if you are just editing documents (need another instance of Visual Studio open or whatever) or want your email up - it's fine. I have had issues with Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) applications correctly rendering on the extra monitor.
I ordered this the same time as a widescreen monitor with 1920x1080 resolution without giving it too hard a look because it was being sold by D*ll as an accessory for the monitor. After installing it, the highest res it will give me is 1280x1024. (See the picture I uploaded at the top of the product page.)I spent an hour on the phone with IOGear's tech support before noticing that the highest res it advertises on the box is 1600x1200. Not only is the res not high enough, but NONE of the resolutions it liste..
