It's a deterrent, which is probably good enough for most folks, but apparently it's not difficult enough for my local thieves to defeat, probably with a prybar or screwdriver. Our street has had mail theft issues and many people have this same mailbox. Today, I noticed the mailbox wide open, and evidence of forced entry. I also noticed at least 3 other of the same mailboxes also wide open, as I drove down the street... ..
