Written during a season of change and transition, TIDES tells a story of moving forward and overcoming the unknown with God. The album paints a sonic landscape that is colorful, progressive, and at times explosive, drawing heavily on analog synths, sweeping guitars, and pulsing rhythms. Brian Johnson s opening track Strong In Us comes crashing in as a powerful declaration of God s victory that is alive in us. Heavens Song by Jeremy Riddle depicts creations refrain to the Lord, capturing listeners through its melodic layers and intricate undercurrents. Energetic tracks such as Jenn Johnsons Chasing You lift the album with vibrant lyrics, highlighting the adventure of pursuing God. The albums crafted anthems revive in us the timelessness and freshness of Gods word, His presence, and His plan.
Bethel Church boasts some of the most prolific song writers of our day. This album has some of what you expect from Bethel in terms of arrangements (4 on the floor drum beat, big builds leading to a bridge) but it also has some new experimental sounds on it. I'm not crazy about the electronics creeping into worship music these days (personal preference!) but this album does it tastefully. I purchased this album as soon as it came out because of Be Still. The song is worth the price of the album. Like most music, the first few listens felt unfamiliar and awkward. After several opportunities to worship with the music, the songs became more familiar to provide the freedom the accompanies more spirit filled engagement. I hope to be optimistic in really loving this music more, but I'll wait for a few more listens.Most importantly, the song Be Still t..
