My unit came from merchant "GPS-FOR-YOU." It appeared to be brand new and unused when I unpacked it. When I started using this traffic adapter, it worked as I expected and did provide traffic information. However, ads began appearing soon after initial activation. I contacted Garmin directly -- they asked for the serial number, and responded that the unit I received was ad-supported.
