I have been using this filter for several years, replacing it annually. I think it is amazing, the water tastes so fresh and it does a good job, according to the manuf. tests, at removing heavy metals -- which many filters cannot do. The filters do have a lite coating of ceramic dust when new, but that proves they have not been used; hardly a contaminant, the ceramic material is what does the heavy lifting in filtering out the voc's and bacteria.
