It was jazz saxophonist Bud Freeman who came up with the idea of Songs Of Couch & Consultation, a musical comedy album that poked fun at psychoanalysis and psychiatric jargon. After writing out the lyrics to some dozen songs, Bud linked with composer Leon Pober, who wrote the music, which was arranged by Bob Thompson. Rather than stick with jazz, the team brought in folk singer Katie Lee to interpret the songs, a decision that proved masterful. The resulting album did little at the time of release, but over the years has grown in popularity, aided in part by the use of It Must Be Something Psychological in a commercial for Linx deodorant!
I had a copy of this record years ago which I really enjoyed. I am a psychiatrist so it strikes a favorable cord with me. Unfortunately I cannot find a replacement even though I have searched for 15 or more years.Hugh M. Conner, M.D. (Ret.)
