The Kimel River, the estate's namesake, runs along the land providing access to clean water for processing. Originally established in 1974 by Austrailians, the coffee estate is locally owned predominantly by the Opais tribe. A management team facilitates projects and operations, including environmental initiatives for clean drinking water and coffee pulp recycling. Taking care of the producers is another important aspect to the operations of the estate. With over 400 permanent workers, the estate provides housing, schooling, and medical facilities for each of them and their families.
