It works well for me with a Moto G phone on Android 4.4.4. I just removed the plastic cap entirely so it's not in the way. You can easily pop it off over the mounting lugs, and replace it later if you change your mind. Personally I don't miss it - I don't think the microUSB connector needs extra protection, and the metal side lugs and lanyard loop provide plenty to grab onto when removing it from a slot. Mine gets fairly warm in operation, but never too hot to touch.A few mino..
