The works of Clement Janequin are somewhat neglected, despite there being an ensemble dedicated to him (the Janequin Ensemble perform on this album). This is unfortunate, because Janequin was one of the strangest and most interesting composers of pre-Baroque music. Some of his songs--particularly the title track--are full of bizarre vocal effects which add both impressive virtuosity and humor to his compositions.
