It was conceived by David Tzur (previously known as Alex Polonsky) and developed by Oskar van Deventer, one of the worlds most prolific puzzle designers. This puzzles combines a corner-and-center-turning gear cube with a twisty 2x2x2 cube. Whereas it is easy to return the puzzle to its cubic shape, it is quite a challenge to get all gear segments to their right face, and even harder to solve the puzzle as a whole.
When I received the David’s Gear Cube (which arrived very quickly), the "gear turning" was very hard to do as the pieces were blocking each other all the time. After two days it stopped working completely, so I decided to take it apart to understand what the problem was, and it turns out that one of the little inner pieces was damaged.
