this radio is expensive, somewhat heavy, and a bit outdated. Sound quality is very good, and the mic picks up your voice nice. I find the PTT button hurts my thumb after a 8-10 hour day, pressing it 10-15 times an hour. It is hard to push, and sometimes does not transmit. Two channels really limit privacy. We'd been through many of the cheaper motorolas and they all failed quickly. These units are fairly tough and great for our 23-acre farm, we've got about 10 of them. We don't really need long distance and in our hilly area the signal fades if you drive more than half a mile away. I purchased several of these in September of 2012 and I'm having to purchase more because the batteries don't last and the reception is terrible. My maintenance staff uses these with the office staff on an apartment community. I'm so disappointed that I spent so much money and am now having to buy more. It won't be of these, that's for sure!!
