A couple of years ago, English violinist Rachel Podger recorded the complete music for solo violin by Bach, for Channel Classics, and received rave reviews
She's the leader of The English Concert, the excellent period instrument orchestra founded by harpsichordist Trevor Pinnock in 1972. These two seem to have been born to play together. Podger's immaculate tuning and sweet tone are perfectly matched by Pinnock's crisp rhythms and solid support. These Bach sonatas have rarely been recorded better. Highly recommended.
