I purchased the M90 to replace my 15-year old Braun 5564 that finally stopped charging and quit working even in the plugged mode. When it first stopped charging, I was still able to use it plugged in. I had purchased a Braun 7000-series as a replacement but that stopped charging after about 4 years (and won't run plugged in).
