I believe I've reviewed this before but will again. The streaming presentation is superb. Audio and video quality is very good. Audio is especially important with this Rock Opera and does not disappoint. The Opera follows Jesus and the Apostles from his emergence after John the Baptist through the crucifixion. Much of the presentation is directly from the Gospels. I have not seen the play but have heard that it is just as good.
a mixed bag, really, but a revolutionary approach to musicals so it should get some cred on that alone. some powerful songs and some that are embarrassing including some of the ridiculous songs by herod and the high priests. the fact that it was an unusual approach to musicals doesn't mean that it is an effective approach. why does every line in the show need to be sung. even shakespeare didn't write every line in his plays in iambic pentameter. some of..
The Gospel's final days, as seen through the eyes of Judas and director Norman Jewison. Filmed on location with a seeming low-budget, with really great music, a laugh or two (that's about it) and the harrowing whipping scene. It seems dated for some people now, considering the "Hippie" element, but using a counter-culture to tell a counter-tale seems fitting.
