You can never go wrong with K&N. I did notice a small margin of improvement in performance from my XB9R. Do not use too much oil (it will gunk things up), and get the ECMspy program to tune the bike for increased air flow.
The K&N filter came pre-oiled and ready for installation. The procedure was very simple and took less than a half hour to install. I don't know how much of a difference it made in performance, but I never have to worry about buying another filter again.
Have been using K&N filters for years. Got this one to replace the regular paper filter on my Buell XB9SX. Immediately noticed improved throttle response and a more "gutteral" sound for the air intake box. I am sure it will last just as long and be just as effective as all the K&N filters I have put to good use over the years.
