I got this cable for my Alienware M15x laptop. I was surprised it'd didn't come with an HDMI and was not familiar with displayport. I got this cable so I could watch my movie files while on vacation. The adapter works great and is very well made. The part that plugs into the data port has a positive locking system which is nice. I was a bit disappoint to see my new Dell laptop come with DP (DisplayPort ) output instead of HDMI. I connected the laptop with this adapter to a 6ft HDMI cable directly into my 1080p Phillips flatscreen. Everything comes through perfect with sound. The "locking" design to keep the cable in performs as well as it should. I'm fully satisfied with this adapter because it works.
I bought this to run 3 monitors on an ATI 5770. I thought I could use a passive adapter since I did not need dual-link DVI on the monitor I was connecting it to (since it was only 1920x1200). However, it turns out that you NEED an ACTIVE ADAPTER if you want to run 3 monitors. Yes, this will work if you want to run two monitors but in order for the ATI 5770 to be able to output to 3 monitors, one must be NATIVE DisplayPort and it seems that a passive adapter is not considered "native" because when using a pa..
