Recorded at Massey Hall in Toronto on May 15, 1953 by the Bird's bassist Charles Mingus, The Quintet or Jazz at Massey Hall is one of the finest live jazz albums ever
It was a legendary night, with Charlie Parker on plastic alto sax, a rather inebriated Bud Powell on piano and trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie who kept running off stage to catch pieces of the Marciano-Walcott heavyweight bout. Opening with Perdido and then sliding into the up-tempo Salt Peanuts, the stage had its fair share of innovators of the bebop movement - creating a memorable and classic evening of music.
