Recorded in 1986 for JMT Records, On The Edge Of Tomorrow was the second album released by Steve Coleman And The Five Elements. It is being released on JMT founder Stefan Winter's new label, Winter & Winter. With support from Polygram's classical manager and finance from Polygram Japan, Winter set up the JMT label and went on to produce 81 albums between 1985 and 1995 with complete artistic control, including the debut recordings from M-Base stalwarts Cassandra Wilson, Steve Coleman, Greg Osby and Robin Eubanks. After 10 years though, label backers Polygram began to want to influence A and R decisions and, leaving JMT dormant, Winter set up the predominantly classical label Winter & Winter. Like JMT before it, Winter & Winter is a successful, innovative label with its distinctive art house packaging, and its success has enabled Stefan Winter to re-release the entire JMT catalogue over the next few years. Already in the shops are Herb Robertson's Transparency, As One by Jane Ira Bloom and Fred Hersch, the Cassandra Wilson debut album Point Of View, Sound Songs by Jay Clayton and Jerry Granelli and Steve Coleman's first two releases Motherland Pulse and On The Edge Of Tomorrow.
