Five Peace Band Live [2 CD] (Audio CD)

By    Simply incredible. This isn't "fusion" this isn't "modern" this isn't "post modern" this isn't "traditional". It is ALL of those things and more. Recently I began snapping up McLaughlin's releases with Fourth Dimension; BLACK LIGHT and THE BOSTON ALBUM are highly recommended. I saw this and thought why not? Usually these supergroup bands somehow miss the mark, I'm not sure why. This band, conceived of by Chick Corea hits the mark and then some. One would think McLaughlin and Corea would share the limelight. Not a chance, these performances are a launch pad for Kenny Garrett who I have never heard play better than right here. I was also surprised at just how well IN A SILENT WAY/IT'S ABOUT THAT TIME turned out. Herbie Hancock guests. The overall feel is very different to the Miles Davis release but it has its essence. Terrific. Buy it.

Great 2 CD set with an all star band. John McLaughlin and Chick Corea play extremely well together, as do the other musicians. There is a great recording of "It's About That Time" which John and Chick played on Miles Davis' stellar "In a Silent Way" album. It is really a treasure. The whole 2 CD set is pleasantly listenable with excellent recording and musicianship.
