When Chloe Chaidez decided, at 13, to leave her previous band, Wild Youth and start again with KITTEN she had already racked up enough experience to match any artist twice her age. By 11 she had shared the stage with Midlake & Conor Oberst. Soon after recording with Bill Racine (Mates of State, Flaming Lips), Chloe chose to leave behind any notion of being a "teen act" and formed KITTEN, where she combines her love of classic 50's songwriting with the DIY ethic of modern indie rock and electronic pop to forge a sound all her own pulling inspiration liberally from every decade.
I've seen them live many times in LA and they always put on a great show. I'm glad to see their frontwoman's strong songwriting really shine on their debut EP. "Kill the Light" and "Johnny, Johnny, Johnny" are especially great. No duds, highly recommended, esp for fans of Giant Drag, Siouxsie, Throwing Muses, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Wye Oak, Metric, etc. Good stuff.
Sunday School is an excellent freshman EP from this new band and teenage lead singer, Chloe Chaidez. It's hard for me to pin down a genera for this EP. Like most excellent music, Kitten carefully incorporates influences from several genres: alternative, indie-rock, pop,.... Mix Fiona Apple, Raveonettes, Smashing Pumpkins, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs and you've got Kitten. Sunday School definitely earned a five star rating, in my book. "Chinatown" and "Kill the Light" are my two favorite songs. I look forward ..
Surprisingly great offering from such a young band. Every aspect of this EP is top notch. Not a dud on here, definitely looking forward to where this band is headed. Recommended if you like metric, yeah yeah yeahs, or female front indie-pop-rock.
