Soak it in water for a while, to allow the little 'beads' inside to absorb water, tie it around your neck, and you are ready for hot weather. I was skeptical at first, but keeping the back of your neck cool, really helps to keep the rest of you cool, as well. The ends could be a bit longer, so it would be easier to tie, but perhaps I just have a thick neck.Either way, if soaked for a few minutes at lunchtime, it will help keep you cool most of the aft..
These are 2 very different products based on the same principle - evaporative cooling. Evaporative cooling works the best in dry climates (think Arizona), and has the least effect in humid climates (think Florida). The Ergodyne Chill-Its 6700 Evaporative Cooling Bandana - TieThe 6700 is similar to most all the other cooling bandanas that contain gel beads which absorb water and release it slowly. There are many of these products on the market and they seem to differ..
The water-absorbent gel is really neat and helpful, though be sure to put the bandanna on *after* you soak it in water (otherwise it will REALLY squeeze your head). After drying out, the gel hardens and becomes sharp, making it very uncomfortable to wear dry. Add a small amount of water to soften the gel if you prefer to wear them dry. Be careful washing them, as they turn into sausages if you leave them in water.
