Don't get this if you're not savvy. You have to know what you're doing. But hooooo boy is it worth it. I have a small flash drive sitting in this B running my system, apps, and basic user home architecture (library, etc.), and then the drive original to my MBP is holding all my user data files (desktop, docs, music, etc.). I recently bought a new 17" MBP. I upgraded the OS drive to an SSD (Crucial m4) and still needed a large data drive to store all my RAW images on.
