The new DSM 5.0 is a huge improvement. Unfortunately, right after update, it failed one my HDD. Here is where Synology's ugly side comes in. After 30 minute wait Mr. Support guy comes in and start to rattle off steps without working through the issues. Their support is minimal. The tech reps are absolutely rude and trying to get rid of you asap on phone. After going through the steps in warp speed, he asked me to send the log file and hung up instead of staying with me. After the file downloaded, it was over 5mb. Well the support center only allow attachments up to 4mb. Even after compressing, my file cannot be uploaded. Now on hold for another 30 minutes as I write this. Pretty awful!

I've had the Synology up and running for about 2 months and I'm still not done configuring all the options - there are a lot. But then there is a LOT you can do with this device and Synology software. I probably have a total of 8 hours into it.My advice is to take your time. Accept that it will take a while to configure everything. Decide what's most important to you first and tackle one step at a time.I'm giving this product 4 stars instead of 5 for the following two reasons:1) A lot of the documentation appears to be outdated, so step by step wasn't really exact.2) More concerning is that some of the features just did not work when I tried to set up according to the instructions. For example mapping a drive was ridiculously tedious. I spent most of the 8 hours I have into this setup/configuration looking for a solution to this. I eventually found solutions, but the same solution that worked on my PC did not work on my wife's. Same PC...Read more
