For a Mac owner buying the CD gets you a code to do a digital download from Steam. The CD is useful for a PC, I guess, and at least is a physical piece of evidence of your purchase. Do mind the computer requirements before you buy because being on the low side means a sluggish and unhappy experience. That said, the program is perfect for someone, like me, who wants to build rather than destroy. You can run the program online or off and the advantage of online is when the update comes you immediately get it. At present Steam has over 66,000 assets, mods and maps that have been added by modder's giving you fantastic opportunity to modify your style of play. Achievements either from the game or Steam give you a goal should your mayorioal abilities lack a Chicago minimum. The learning curve has a few surprises, one I shall give to save you from my mistake; when saving a game make sure to rename the save from "Newsave" to the name of your city.
