"Motorola RDV2020, The Motorola RDV2020 on-site two-way radio operates on 27 VHF business-exclusive frequenciesthis radio is expensive, somewhat heavy, and a bit outdated. Sound quality is very good, and the mic picks up your voice nice. I find the PTT button hurts my thumb after a 8-10 hour day, pressing it 10-15 times an hour. It is hard to push, and sometimes does not transmit. Two channels really limit privacy. (the RDV2080d has 8 channels, this radio's better twin) Overall, it is a good radio for the outdoors, because it is made for abuse from rain, dust, heat, etc. They say it can be dropped, too!(I never tried that) The other nice thing is the battery life, it can last 12 hours on one charge. The charging base is annoying, though. It is too big for the radio. You to slide it in the slots, or the contacts won't touch.If you have to buy one, you will feel like you should get more for your money. the price is high everywhere, so finding a cheap one is difficult. amazon has very good prices compared to most other places......

My maintenance staff uses these with the office staff on an apartment community. I'm so disappointed that I spent so much money and am now having to buy more. These units are fairly tough and great for our 23-acre farm, we've got about 10 of them. We don't really need long distance and in our hilly area the signal fades if you drive more than half a mile away. Most annoying quality is how they slide into the charging base, must be done carefully or else the contacts don't line up. Regarding the person who complained about interference, you can program other frequencies and these do require an FCC license, so in theory the FCC should be giving you distinct frequencies to use. If you splurge for the overpriced cable you can program these using a PC, which is nice.UPDATE: a few years later we've had a lot of problems with the transmit buttons failing, they are cheaply soldered on. | 7 | |
