I first heard this album at the National Public Radio website in its entirety. A radio review inspired me to give a listen, and I'm glad I did! I couldn't stop listening to this incredible music. It's like finding a pearl in an oyster. My copy of the CD finally arrived and I have been playing it every day. I'm selective about music of any kind, but this music was like finding that mysterious sweet spot on the radio dial between middle eastern world music and popular music. It's like a swirl of two genres, but having music that transcends both categories.

I don't have any music quite like this in my collection, but it reminds me slightly of instruments and/or vocals from these bands and artists: Bjork, Irfan (Bulgarian group), Cocteau Twins, Tanita Tikaram, Camera Obscura... but... the vocals on Ya Nass are what set this apart from a lot of music. YASMINE HAMDAN is the lead singer of SOAPKILLS, Check out the song Kasdoura by SOAPKILLS and the album Arabology by Y.A.S ( with MIRWAIS ), Terrific record. This is her first solo album, And this is the international release. The original version was released last year ( physical release only ). Few songs are missing and new songs have been added. This is more traditional music, Subtle electronica, More personal. Check out the song Gamar, A cover of GEORGE BRASSENS.
