I'd heard great reviews about the Dakota; my one concern was whether the "10" version - which doesn't offer SD card expansion - would have enough memory. It's proved to have plenty enough memory for my purposes, including storing topo maps for three states and several dozen geocache descriptions.The touchscreen is reasonably responsive - you won't mistake it for an iPhone or Android, but it's probably more waterproof than them as well - and the controls are logically laid out. I did have one day in which I somehow managed to lock the screen and couldn't figure out how to unlock it until I got home, but that's been my only episode of confusion.Garmin provides some good software and web resources for its product line. It's a little bit confusing - why do there need to be three different Mac applications just to add maps and view them? - but once you get the hang of it, it works well.You can buy Garmin topo maps but you don't need to: there are many...Read more
