I have purchased many SACD's over the years and none can compare to incredible soundstage of this this iconic album. I have a few of the "Pure Audio" Blu-rays and they vary in comparison depending on the title. Yes, I know that there are just some titles available on Blu-ray audio that remastering will not make them sound like they were recorded yesterday. This album is so far, and by far, the best sounding 5.1 audio recording I have ever purchased.
I was kind of expecting a lot less to be honest, but boy was I wrong. It's like being in the middle of the actual recording session. I was amazed at the sounds coming from all the different speakers. It was if Tom Petty was inside my center speaker and the band was surrounding me. I will not go into the greatness of each song as the whole disc is incredible. Most fans of this album know that it is one of Tom Petty's best albums.

If you're a CD nut like me and want the best quality remasters out there but struggle to find reviews of them on here, I'll be the one to review which remastered release to get (the 2001 or the 2010 version). I, for one, think there are too many reviews of the album itself rather than how the remastering is done, and whether it's good or bad. We all know how great this album is. It's a classic, one of Tom Petty's best for sure. Now onto the remastering. The remasters available are the 2001 edition done by Joe Gastwirt, and the more recent 2010 edition done by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering Studios in Hollywood, CA. Personally, I prefer the former because Joe Gastwirt also did the 2001 remasters for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' self-titled debut album, You're Gonna Get It, Hard Promises, and Long After Dark, and Gastwirt is just as all-around great mastering engineer in my opinion, having also remastered most of the Grateful Dead's catalog, and Crosby, Stills...Read more
