Interesting that the manufacturers insert that comes in the plastic bag with this product states, "...reduces sound levels evenly by 20 dB evenly across the frequency range without changing the clarity of speech or the richness of music." Then, you notice the chart directly underneath (circled) that states, "12 dB" Noise Reduction Rating. If someone would care to explain the 8 dB difference it would be appreciated. I doubt if it's false advertising, but an 8dB difference is quite a bit.
I'm a sound engineer and have been looking for a good pair of plugs for concerts. I spend most of my time in the studio, not at concerts, because I don't want to damage my hearing.Let me start with this: No earplug can replicate the ears response while impeding sound. The ER20 plugs do work well. I'm a fulltime musician and love them. BUT, the last pair I got turned out to be the "Baby Blues" which are made "for small ear canals". The descriptions here are very weak and it's easy to make that mistake. The actual sound filter is inside the stem, but the silicone plug (the blue part on these plugs) is smaller than normal, too small for my adult male ears. I'm not sure the seller understands this. Be careful.
