2K11 - Maybe better than 2K8, March 9, 2011

Major League Baseball 2K11 Major League Baseball 2K11 available on February 01 2015 from Amazon for 37.00
I've stuck with 2k8 baseball on the Wii given the reviews of the previous two iterations. Finally this year I took the plunge pre-ordering 2k11 (I'm a Phillies fan and it looked like there were some interesting improvements).Amazon delivery is great, and the game was waiting for me when I got home from work. I played a quick game on the default settings - I usually do quite well on all-star in 2k8.I sent the Phillies over to Yankee stadium (still bitter there), and set up the weather etc. Things started out pretty cool. I liked the view when pitching which is from the catcher's perspective, and noticed that Doc's pitch selection changed according to whether a right hand or left hand batter was up. Also, it was not quite so easy to paint the corners of the strike zone as in 2k8. I noticed that later in the game after I took Halliday out, there was a vast difference in pitching quality. It also seems like getting cheap pickoffs isn't so easy any more...

It took me DAYS to even come up with something I could say about this game, in the first few sentences, that would set the stage for the rest of this review. Rest assured, the amount of time it took me to come up with something to say required more work and thought than 2K Sports spent on creating this game for the Nintendo Wii.Needless to say, I expected more from them. I was let down. For awhile, us Wii owners didn't have good sports games. We had to put up with arcade style games like The Bigs and cutesy kids games like Backyard Football/Baseball.2K Sports just didn't make good sports games. NHL 2K9 was awful and the last few MLB games were intolerable and, quite frankly, made me wonder if 2K Sports was just writing beta programs, on shiny drink coasters, before deciding they could make a bit of money off of them. But, then came NHL 2K10, 2K11, and NBA 2K11 for the Wii. They didn't have the graphical polish of the PS3 and XBOX 360 but...

This game is absolutely hideous.***No online play or roster updates. Inexcusable for a "modern" game, especially one that costs $50.***Graphics are terrible.***Too many glitches. The game incorrectly records outs and runs, the announcers' calls are often wrong.***Most players look nothing like their real-life counterparts. For example, Cubs catcher Geovanny Soto is represented by a light-skinned redhead...in other words, NOTHING like Soto. This is especially odd given that Soto looks "right" in The Bigs 2, a game that's roughly two years older than this one.***The controls are OK, though running the bases is too difficult.Junk, junk, junk. The Bigs 2 (which is available rather inexpensively when purchased used) is made by the same company but looks better and is actually quite fun, and Sony's "The Show" series is a far better simulation.
